The Traditional Ruler of Ohekelem Autonomous community in Ngor Okpala LGA Imo state , HRH Eze Dr Emmanuel Okere has passed away at the age of 89 after a brief illness.

The transition of the respected Monarch was made public with 250 gun shots on Tuesday, 5th May,2026, by Ohekelem Community, marking the end of a 22-year reign.

Eze Dr Emmanuel Okere was crowned as the EKELEM 1 of Ohekelem Autonomous community by the administration of Governor Achike Udenwa on 12th April 2004.

Before ascending the throne, Eze Emmanuel Okere had an illustrious career as an Assistant Agricultural officer at the Government farm settlement in Nsukka.

Following his voluntary resignation, he ventured into business and established the reputable building and supply company known as E. E. Okere and Sons. His integrity, visionary leadership, and business acumen further earned him recognition as the sole representative of a Lebanese company, Oxford Investment Nigeria Ltd.

His transition into traditional leadership was seen as a continuation of his lifelong dedication to philanthropy and selfless service to community development.

Confirming the monarch’s transition, the Traditional Prime Minister of Ohekelem Community, Chief Engr Emmanuel Ahuwanya, the President General of the community, Mr Raymond Anyanwu and the first son of the Traditional Ruler,Prince Chibuike Okere described Eze Okere as a highly revered Traditional Ruler with robust charisma and charming personality.

“He was a revered philanthropist, a man of peace and a symbol of royal dignity whose reign brought long-term territorial stability and harmonious coexistence among the people of Ohekelem Community”

According to the community, activities for his burial rites will be announced in due course.
