……vows to defend the interests of Ngor-Okpala.
A group of prominent Ngor-Okpala intellectuals, professionals, activists and public figures has announced the formation of Ngor-Okpala Leadership Forum, an apex socio-political platform for the people of Ngor-Okpala, which is aimed at promoting democratic values, equity, inclusive leadership and political renewal in Ngor-Okpala.
The group, which unveiled its motto as “Ngor-Okpala First,” was formally launched on Wednesday, 17th June, in an inaugural meeting held at Umuowa Ngor-Okpala
According to a statement from the group, the forum was established out of a “profound sense of historical responsibility” and concern over what was described as the worsening state of political exclusion of Ngor-Okpala from power bargaining in the state.
The meeting which comprised of prominent Ngor-Okpala sons, former honorable members from Ngor-Okpala and representatives of some other sociopolitical groups in Ngor Okpala as affiliate bodies, raised concerns on the exclusion of Ngor-Okpala in major elective positions and urged all political parties to ensure that their candidates for major elective positions are from Ngor Okpala.
According to the group, equity and justice demand that Ngor-Okpala produces the next governor of the state or other elective positions in the state.
The group further pointed out that Ngor-Okpala people have historically been associated with values such as truth, education, democratic engagement, accountability and social progress, warning that these ideals are increasingly being eroded by political opportunism, intolerance of dissent and the normalization of unaccountable power.
Later, Hon Tobias Nwanzeremmadu moved a motion for adoption of the leadership and steering committee of the Forum, which was seconded by Hon. Clifford Akalonu and adopted by the overwhelming majority of members. Thereafter, the leadership and steering committee of the Forum was ratified with Hon. Gozie Nwachukwu as chairman, Barr Charles Azara as secretary and Chief Soronnadi Njoku SAN, as Leader.
