Imo Govt To Give Educationist, Basil Nnanna Ukaegbu State Burial

The Late Dr Basil Nnanna Ukaegbu, a foremost parliamentarian and renowned educationist is to be given a state burial.

Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Governor of Imo State, announced this when the Burial Committee led by Barrister George Eke paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Owerri.

Governor Uzodimma extended his condolences to the family of the late elder statesman and assured them that the Imo State Government would be actively involved in the burial ceremony.

He emphasized that the distinguished sage deserves to be honoured with a dignified farewell.

The Governor praised the late Dr. Nnanna Ukaegbu for his significant contributions to education, notably for spearheading the establishment of Africa’s first indigenous and privately-owned university, TEDEM University, located in Imerienwe, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area.

Governor Uzodimma highlighted Dr. Nnanna Ukaegbu’s accomplishments as an exceptional politician, nationalist, and astute legislator, and pledged to inform the National Assembly of his passing.

To facilitate a smooth burial process, the Governor committed to mobilizing contractors to repair the road leading to Dr. Ukegbu’s ancestral home in Umafor, Imerienwe, Ngor Okpala LGA.

He expressed his sympathy to the people of Ngor Okpala in particular, and Imo State in general, for the loss of this eminent statesman, politician, nationalist, and educationist.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Burial Committee, Barrister George Eke, had requested support from the Imo Government to ensure the success of the burial and expressed gratitude to the Governor for granting the Committee an audience.

The delegation included Barrister George Eke, Barrister Enyinna Onuegbu, Chief Charles Amadi (Charlvon), Okenze Sylvester Obinna, AVM Remy Eke (retired), Chief Val Okere, Dr. Ethelbert Okere, Dr. Andrew Ukaegbu, and Mrs. Chika Ibekwe.
