Recent political developments in the state have triggered a reactionary suspicion over Governor Uzodimma’s choice of successor ahead of the 2027 Imo Guber race.
The recent APC stakeholders meeting held in Owerri where the Governor reiterated his deep-rooted support for equitable distribution of power in the state as encapsulated in the celebrated Imo Charter of Equity is a confirmatory pointer to the speculation that his successor will emerge from Owerri zone.
The governor described the Charter of Equity as a consensus guiding framework that will ensure equity, fairness, justice, and political inclusion, and regulate power balancing and distribution amongst the three Senatorial Zones of the state.
The governor went further to re-establish his predisposition to power balancing, which favours Owerri zone . Meanwhile, there have been high-powered political schemings and unfolding gimmicks to ascertain which bloc in Owerri that the governor may consider for his choice of successor.
While considerations are ongoing, subtle manoeuvres, political undercurrents, and permutational dices are gradually and progressively enveloping the atmosphere, especially within the All Progressives Congress in the state.
While it seems difficult to unravel the mindset of Governor Hope Uzodimma on his choice of successor, Boldmedia recently gathered that, some considerable factors and realities of political dynamics may favour either Owerri federal constituency or Aboh-Mbaise Ngor Okpala federal constituency.
In Owerri federal constituency, Governor Uzodimma’s choice of candidates may not elude Sir MacDonald Ebere ,the immediate past APC Chairman in the state, and Sir Jude Ejiogu,his close ally and former Secretary to Government of Imo State. Among the duo, many believe that Jude Ejiogu stands a better chance considering his unmatched experience as a grassroot politician who has maintained consistent visibility in the state political landscape.
Some believe that he is among the political front benchers in the state whose name dominates the political airwaves without struggle for recognition. Governor Uzodimma who places premium on quality, political experience and loyalty may consider Jude Ejiogu who many political watchers say is the only experienced technocrat among the frontline aspirants, an advantage that places him ahead of his opponents, especially now that Imolites are clamouring for a technocrat rather than a professional politician.
Also, Sir MacDonald Ebere, one of the closest loyalists of Governor Uzodimma, is said to be in the lips of the governor. Many believe that his recent body movement may not be unconnected to the reality of Governor Uzodimma’s choice.
In Aboh Mbaise- Ngor Okpala federal constituency, Governor Uzodimma’s eyes may be pointing at two prominent sons of Aboh Mbaise and one of his loyalists in Ngor Okpala (name withheld) .
