The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), an offshoot of Boko Haram, has released a video showing the execution of three Nigerian soldiers.
The video, which was seen by SaharaReporters, shows the soldiers being shot by insurgents using guns. The incident took place on March 15, 2025, in Yobe State. The soldiers were captured in the Kamuya and Azare areas of the state.
In the video, the three soldiers are shown kneeling in a field, identifying themselves as members of the Nigerian security forces before masked men in military uniforms open fire on them.
ISWAP has been gaining more control around Lake Chad since the death of its previous leader, Abubakar Shekau. Many Boko Haram fighters have joined ISWAP, increasing the group’s strength.
The Nigerian Army often claims that the insurgency is largely defeated and downplays any losses, despite the group causing over 100,000 deaths and displacing millions, mostly in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.
