The Global Alumni Association of Oke-Ovoro Secondary School, Uvuru, in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, has expended over one hundred million naira on the renovation of key infrastructure, as well as the provision of social amenities to the school.
This was contained in a report recently released by the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee of the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of the school, Ambassador Innocent Iwejuo. He disclosed that the alumni association expended a huge amount of money on the physical transformation of the school, including the reconstruction of two academic blocks of 12 classrooms; reconstruction of the ICT Centre; reconstruction of the Principal’s and Administrative Building; reconstruction and equipping of the Science Laboratory buildings; reconstruction of the Library and Staffroom Block; construction of a brand-new school gate with a gatehouse; refurbishment of the old gate and its installation at the back gate entrance leading to Umuachalu Road; sinking of a new water borehole with a tank stand and a brand-new standby generator; recovery of the entire school premises and pathways, which were hitherto completely reclaimed by nature with overgrown bushes and unkempt grasses; construction of a designated OSS bus stop along the Mbaise/Okpala Road leading to the school; planting of several economic trees to beautify the school environment; as well as the construction of a 720-capacity grandstand attached to the school’s soccer pitch, donated by another highly accomplished OSS alumnus, Chief (Dr.) Success Obioma Akagburuonye, among others.
The report was a summary of the Golden Jubilee Anniversary celebration organised by the Global Alumni Association of Oke-Ovoro Secondary School, Uvuru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, on 29th December, 2025.
Ambassador Iwejuo said all the steps were taken to ensure the safety of the students and the school, adding that:
“The alumni association demonstrated synergy through a massive fundraising drive, ably championed by one of our highly accomplished alumni and Chairman of the Finance and Fundraising Sub-Committee, Ezinwa Sir Stanley Amuchie and his team, complemented with the ‘Project 50 for 50 Initiative’, championed by another well-accomplished OSS alumnus and President of the Uvuru Communities Development Union (UCDU), Engr. (Dr.) Chimaraoke Ben Nnaji.”
He further assured that the intention of the Alumni Association was not only to recover and upgrade the structure of the institution but also to make every child who graduates from the school a model product, both in character and in learning.
The Global Alumni President, Dr. Kenneth Akwuole, who applauded the alumni members, especially the star donors and other philanthropic sons and daughters of Uvuru for their massive contributions towards the rebuilding of the school, further urged them to continue investing in the future of the school by supporting the School Education Endowment Fund.
He encouraged the students of the school to work hard, stay focused, and believe in the greatness that lies within them, saying that the Alumni Association is available to support their journey.
The Chairman of the OSS Board of Trustees, Ezinwa Sir Stanley Amuchie, commended members of the Alumni Association and other patriotic sons and daughters of Uvuru, as well as their friends, for their generous donations towards the rebuilding of the school.
He highlighted the long-term vision for the school’s sustainability and called for collective action towards making the alma mater a citadel of learning and a model institution in Imo State and Nigeria as a whole.
Finally, the Planning Committee Chairman commended all the Sub-Committee Chairmen and members for demonstrating capacity and dedication to the responsibilities assigned to them.
“Permit me to specially acknowledge the sterling contributions of the CPC Secretary, Mrs. Avelina Okafor (Nee Nnaji); Chairman of the Finance & Fundraising Sub-Committee, Ezinwa Sir Stanley Amuchie; the 2nd Vice Chairman and UCDU President, Engr. (Dr.) Chimaroke Ben Nnaji; and the Chairman of the Projects & Works Sub-Committee, Engr. Peter-Claver Nwaiwu.
“Our gratitude also goes to the Chairman of the Events & Venue Sub-Committee, Dr. Charles Aguwamba; the 1st Vice Chairman/Chairman of the Protocol Sub-Committee, Attorney Benjamin Igbokwe; Chairman of the Media & Publicity Sub-Committee, Hon. Dennis Adikwuru; Chairman of the Contact/Membership Mobilisation Sub-Committee, Sir Noble Fabian N. Nwaoha; the Anniversary Song Composer, Ms. Emmaculata (Queenesther) Nnaji; and others who contributed in one way or the other towards the success of the event.
