Ngor-okpala Agog as Nnanna Ukegbu Buried in A Blaze of Glory

The burial ceremony of the foremost Nigerian educationist Dr Basil Nnanna Ukegbu practically turned out as gathering of who-is-who in Imo State and beyond as eminent personalities from different walks of life graced the event.

A host of high-profile dignitaries converged in Amafor Imerienwe, Ngor Okpala, Imo state, for the final rites of Nigeria’s second republic Parliamentarian died at the age of.

Dr Nnanna Ukegbu, a towering figure in the Second Republic and an elder statesman, was laid to rest on Tuesday 30th December in his hometown Amafor Imerienwe Ngor Okpala LGA. The funeral, drew high-profile personalities from the state and beyond.

Among the dignitaries who stormed Ngor-Okpala for the funeral ceremony were; Imo state Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, Imo state Deputy Governor Dr Chinyere Ekomaru, Former Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, Senator Francis Ezenwa Onyewuchi, Senator representing Imo East Senatorial District, Hope Imo state Commissioner of police,

While signing the condolence register at his residence, Governor Hope Uzodimma said Dr Nnanna Ukegbu exemplified fiscal prudence, personal discipline, and a steadfast commitment to probity in public service, and was a fearless defender of the underdog and marginalised, tirelessly advocating grassroots development and democratic rule.

“His philosophy has continued to drive a legacy aimed at making our society a better place for all. I pray for God to continue to grant him eternal rest and for strength, comfort, and unity to his family and community in their loss”
The Governor commended the National Burial Committee led by Barr George Eke for their exceptional commitment in giving late Dr Nnanna Ukegbu a befitting burial rite.

The Chairman of the National Burial Committee, Barr George Eke applauded the Governor for his support towards the success of the funeral. He conveyed the appreciation of the people of Ngor-Okpala to the Governor for standing in solidarity with the Ukegbu family and the people of Ngor-Okpala throughout the burial rites.

Highpoint of the funeral ceremony was the official unveiling of Dr Nnanna Ukegbu’s mausoleum by Governor Hope Uzodimma.
